Help welcome Palestinians to Edinburgh's Fringe

Democratic Left Scotland is pleased to help publicise Welcome to the Fringe: Palestine.

It is an initiative to bring Palestinian Artists to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe. The organisers say 'we want to platform their voices and celebrate Palestinian art and culture, with freedom and without censorship. While here, the project will support them to engage with the festival, meet audiences, see shows, make contacts, make friends, and enjoy the city.

'We embrace the lessons in hospitality, culture and liberation that we have learnt from Palestinians and we hope to bring that spirit to the Festival. Over the week in August 2025, Welcome to the Fringe: Palestine will take place in an atmosphere of conviviality. We aim to present up to 16 artists and their work - ranging from poetry, theatre, dance, live art and song.

'We want to welcome audiences to share in their work. There will be art and politics, as well as laughter, music, food, drink, stories, jokes and conversation.

'We have launched a crowdfunder to help us raise £30,000 and it would be great to have your support'.

Please donate, share, and amplify. It’s an all or nothing campaign that will end on 28 February 2025.

OTHER WAYS TO SUPPORT WELCOME TO THE FRINGE: PALESTINE

  • Edinburgh Accommodation: We are looking for rent free accommodation in Edinburgh for the duration of the showcase which is 11 August – 14 August, preferably for the entire week, entire flats and (private) spare rooms preferred.

  • Offering space and networking opportunities: We are a small team of artists who are organising this voluntarily, we are keen to bring as many Palestinian artists as we can. If you are a Fringe venue and are able to offer space (in-kind or low cost) to host a show, then please get in touch! We are also looking for networking opportunities, festival passes, event invites, or individual artists who are happy to be “buddied up” with an incoming artist.

  • Marketing support: Printing, PR, Socials, graphic design, promoting a show at the Fringe takes a huge amount of effort so any support here would be massively appreciated!

  • Sponsor an Artist:  £2000 covers basic fees to bring one artist/person to the fringe from Palestine. We’re inviting all arts organisations, collectives, and individual artists anywhere in the world to sponsor an artist! Organise your own fundraiser or gig, have an auction or raffle, run a marathon, have a bake sale or maybe (if you’re particularly successful) donate a portion of your box office earnings. There are many ways to raise money and every little bit counts!

  • Your own ideas: If you have any other ideas that you can offer then we would love to hear from you!
