Richard Green of the Radical Independence Campaign on the aims of their conference in Glasgow this month
The Radical Independence Campaign will hold its first ‘in person’ conference since the on-line meetings during the lockdown period.
The conference takes place in Glasgow on Saturday 21st October, from 11am to 4pm, at the Renfield Centre, Bath Street. Its theme is ‘Break the Impasse - towards independence’. RIC aims to bring together a wide cross section of the Indy supporting left to discuss where we are with the movement for Scottish independence and how we go forward.
From the Constitutional Convention and the referendum victory that established the Scottish Parliament in the 1990’s to the 2014 referendum, which for the first time created a mass popular movement for Scottish independence, the movement for self-determination as advanced. Now however, with a second referendum blocked by Westminster and the British state’s ‘Supreme Court’, despite the majority in favour at Holyrood, the way forward seems blocked. Where do we go from here? That is the question for discussion at the conference.
Speakers from the Scottish Greens, SNP Socialists, Socialists for Independence and Scottish Socialist Youth are among those expected to contribute to the conference’s main session, while participatory workshops will explore issues including the climate crisis, trade unions and independence, and how we get organised at a local level.
The conference is open to all on Scotland’s radical left. For more information and to book your tickets, click here.
